How to start

Pairing the tracker with the app

Start using the tracker is easy: there is no need to register to any website, setting a password or sharing personal data. You only need to execute an easy pairing procedure to associate the UrbanTracker and its companion mobile app. Once the pairing procedure is completed, the tracker is ready to use. To successfully pair your tracker to the app you need to go through the following steps:

  1. Install the UrbanTracker app on the mobile phone. The app is available for free on Google Play (Android ver. 4.4+) and App Store (iOS ver. 10+).
  2. Launch the app and tap on the + button (Android) or Add a tracker button (iOS) on the main screen, and then choose the Add a tracker option. When requested, accept the permissions needed by the app to execute.
  3. Scan the QR code located on the rear side of the tracker device
  4. When requested, turn on the tracker holding on the ON/OFF button until the green led turns ON. After some seconds the red and green led blink alternately. Follow carefully the wizard on the app, which at the end will allow the association of your preferred name and a photo to the tracker.

At the end of the installation wizard, the tracker device is paired with the app and it appears in the main app screen. The tracker is now ready to be used.

  • If the tracker does not turn on, it may need to be recharged. Please connect the tracker to an USB charger and restart from step 2 when it is fully charged.
  • The tracker is ready to be associated with the app when the two red and green led blink alternately.
  • During the wizard, please keep the tracker close to the mobile phone.
  • More than one tracker device can be associated with the same app.
  • The same tracker device cannot be associated with more than one app (on separate mobile phones)
  • Executing a new association for a tracker that is already paired with another phone, the original tracker association is removed and the tracker is deleted from the main screen of the original app.
  • In the case a new firmware update for the tracker is available when completing the pairing process, a specific red icon is shown on the My UrbanTrackers screen and a specific button [with text Update available for the tracker! (Android) or Update available (iOS)] is displayed in the tracker detail screen; if that is the case, it is strongly suggested to execute the update, either clicking on the icon or on the button and following the guided update procedure.

Managing a tracker

You can manage your tracker when it is associated with a mobile app.

Tapping on the tracker entry in the main screen of the app, you navigate to the tracker's detail's screen; here you can set one of the available operative modes, turn it OFF or browse through the location history log.

Operative modes

A tracker can be used in 4 main operative modes, that are:

  • Ready (to be found) mode
  • Motion alarm mode
  • Tracking mode
  • Flight mode.

An additional operative mode is “OFF” that allows you to turn OFF the tracker from inside the app.

Geolocations

A geolocation is the single event of sending the geographic location of the tracker to the app installed on the smartphone, either requested by you (Ready mode) or sent automatically when the tracker is set in Tracking or Motion Alarm mode.

At purchase, every UrbanTracker is preloaded with a Starter Pack of 200 Geolocations.

When, using the tracker, a geolocation event is received by the smartphone, the geolocation balance is decreased by one unit. Further geolocation bundles can be purchased from inside the UrbanTracker app.

Tracker Update

Updates of the tracker's firmware are released periodically.

It is important to keep your tracker up to date installing the firmware updates when available.

The availability of a tracker firmware update is announced by a red icon displayed on the My UrbanTrackers screen and by a specific button in the tracker detail screen [with text Update available for the tracker! (Android) or Update available (iOS)].

To execute the update, tap on the icon or on the button and follow the instructions.

  • A voluntary or accidental switch-off of the tracker should be avoided during the update procedure; before initiating the update procedure please ensure that the battery is at least at 25% of charge; in the case the charge level is lower than 25%, please connect the tracker to an USB charger before starting the update.
  • The version of the installed tracker's firmware can be checked tapping the top-right menu icon in the tracker detail page (Android) or the top-right menu button (iOS) and then selecting device info.

Changing operative modes

Ready mode

A tracker in Ready mode is ready to be located when needed.

To set the tracker in ready mode, choose this option from the tracker details screen.

Then, to locate a tracker there are 2 ways:

  1. From the trackers list screen, tap on the Find button.
  2. From the tracker details screen, tap on the Find icon (Android) or on the Find button in the screen menu (iOS).

You'll receive a notification when the new location is detected.

Motion alarm mode

A tracker in Motion alarm mode automatically sends its location when a motion is detected; then, if further motions are detected, these will be shown on a track on the same map. You'll receive a notification every new motion detected.

To enable Motion alarm mode, choose this option from the tracker details screen.

To show on the map the motion alarm location (or the locations, if more than one) there are 2 ways:

  1. From the trackers list screen: tap on the Map button.
  2. From the tracker's history screen: open the Motion Alarms list, that shows all the motion alarm sessions, then tap on the map icon of the desired session.
  • When this mode is enabled, to save battery for a long time (even for several days), the tracker, in absence of motion, communicates with the service system once every 4 hours. So in case a change of operative mode is requested, the command could not be executed immediately, but within 4 hours max, in case no motion is detected. Conversely, if a motion is detected, the tracker will communicate at once and it could make promptly any requested operative mode change during the motion.
  • When this mode is enabled, it isn't possible to search and locate the tracker.

Tracking mode

A tracker in Tracking mode automatically sends its location at predefined intervals, all the locations will be shown on a track on the same map. You'll receive a notification every new location found.

To enable Tracking mode, choose this option from the tracker details screen, then choose the desired interval from the available ones: 2 minutes, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour.

To show on the map the tracking location (or the locations, if more than one) there are 2 ways:

  1. From the trackers list screen: tap on the Map button.
  2. From the tracker's history screen: open the Trackings list, that shows all the tracking sessions, then tap on the map icon of the desired session.
  • When this mode is enabled, it isn't possible to search and locate the tracker.

Flight mode

A tracker in Flight mode is useful to check, at the end of flights, the position of any boarded baggage. During the flights it is offline, to avoid use of GSM or data network (that is forbidden), and it checks at intervals if it is flying or not.

  1. Insert the tracker into the baggage.
  2. To enable Flight mode choose this option from the tracker details screen. Now the tracker is set offline.
  3. When the tracker is in Flight mode, choose Ready mode; doing this, you "book" the flight mode exit: the tracker will exit the Flight mode when, after a flight, it feels that it is not flying anymore.
  4. When the tracker exits the Flight mode, going in Ready mode, it notifies you and asks you if you want to know its location.
  5. You can now ask the location of your baggage.
  • If your flight has more stopovers, please make sure that Flight mode is enabled before each take-off.
  • When this mode is enabled, it isn't possible to search and locate the tracker.
  • When this mode is enabled the tracker can not communicate anymore with the service, in order to comply with regulations about GSM or data communications during flights. If you want to exit the Flight mode just after enabling it, simply take the device, turn it OFF and then turn it ON by the ON/OFF key; after that the tracker will be in Ready mode again.

How to...

Check if the tracker is ON or OFF

On the device: simply tap on the ON/OFF key. If the tracker is ON, the led will blink briefly, otherwise the tracker is OFF.

From the app: When the tracker is OFF, its operational mode is "OFF"; the on/off status is shown in the tracker list screen and in the tracker details screen.

Turn ON the tracker

When the tracker is OFF, press the ON/OFF key until the green led turns ON.

It is not possible to turn on the tracker from the app.

Turn OFF the tracker

On the device: hold on the ON/OFF key until the red led turns ON.

From the app: choose OFF function in the tracker details screen.

Recharge the battery

Plug the tracker to an USB charger with USB Micro-B plug (charger not included in the packaging); the red led will turn on, indicating an ongoing recharge.

When the battery is fully recharged, the red led turns off and the green led turns on; at this point the tracker can be unplugged.
